The Office. The Office: “Double Date” Review. Pam, Jim, Michael and Pam’s mom finally double date. The best episodes of The Office don’t really follow a specific formula as much as they manage to pull off several difficult tightrope walks. The series’ best outings all somehow find the right balance between a number of competing forces: comedy and drama; slapstick gags and slice-of-life humor; awkwardness and everyday routine; and between making Michael a lovable idiot and depicting him as a pathetic jerk.
The worst episodes fail to walk the right path between more than a few of those dichotomies. Like last week’s ” Koi Pond ,” ” Double Date ” fails on multiple levels. I have a hard time remembering an episode that’s less entertaining. Or one with less laughs, for that matter.

Quick spoilers for last night’s. There’s a reason it’s the only one of the three I didn’t attempt to write up before going to bed last night. Which isn’t to say “Double Date” was bad, just that its ambitions were more modest, and that the episode didn’t really know how to end. Pam’s discovery of Michael’s relationship with her mom in “The Lover” led to a hilarious episode where Pam got to be loud and irrational while Michael was resembling a voice of reason.
Everyone had calmed down by the time of “The Lover,” and even Michael’s decision to dump Helen on her birthday wasn’t so much unfair he had legitimate, well-articulated reasons, especially when you consider that he is, in fact, Michael Scott as horribly-timed and uncomfortably-presented. And then Pam’s desire to punch Michael in front of the whole staff – and the staff’s desire to see her do it – kind of fizzled.

I finished watching The Office all the way through for the fourth time recently, so like any fan of the series, I decided to start it all over again. This time as I go through each season, I am putting together a ranked list of each episode in that season in order from my least favorite to my favorite. Just kidding. Sort of. The Lover: Episode 7.
This one is just not very entertaining. There was nothing really funny about it all, but it does add a little intrigue as to how the characters will get along going forward. The other storyline was Dwight secretly audio-taping Jim with a pen and disguising that fact by using a wooden duck. This episode just feels like one of those filler episodes to get you to the next one. This is one of the more memorable episodes for a lot of people, but not for good reason.
The reason is for its cringiness. The scenes provide a few chuckles, but it is hard to watch at the same time.
How Old Was Michael Scott Supposed to be on ‘The Office’?
Fans of The Office know that one of the most loved aspects of the series is the relationships that develop between the people working at Dunder Mifflin. Whether it is romantic or platonic, these relationships are key in people coming back to watch the show again and again. Jim and Pam may be the power couple from the series, but the relationship that Pam shares with her boss, Michael Scott, is one that should be looked at a little more closely. Once the series officially gets underway, we learn that the pair have known each other for some time.
As the series progresses, we see some interesting ripples in their relationship develop, and while some of these things are perfectly fine, there are other moments that make absolutely no sense at all. This most notably happens after the Diwali part that the two attend.
